Dirk Van Evercooren

Dirk Van Evercooren was born in 1966 in Antwerp, Belgium, and holds a Master’s degree in Economic Science.

After spending nearly 2 decades as Director of Markets at VREG, the electricity and gas markets regulator in the Flanders region of Belgium, he left the regulator to take the position of Managing Director of the Organisation for Sustainable Energy (ODE Flanders). He is also the Chair of the Board of the International Tracking Standard Foundation: Founder of I-REC (I-TRACK Foundation), a non-profit organization that provides a robust standard for developing attribute tracking systems.

His areas of expertise include sustainability, energy regulation, functioning of retail markets for electricity and gas, renewable energy, markets for green certificates, and Energy Attribute Certificates. He is an experienced spokesperson, debater, and presenter.

He was also active within CEER, the Council of European Energy Regulators as a Member of the Customer and Retail Markets Working Group and Co-chair of the Customer Empowerment Work Stream. From May 2014 till February 2020, he was President of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB is an international not-for-profit organization. The purpose is to develop, use, and promote a standardised system to facilitate the international exchange between of energy certificates).
